Early October = the Place presents "Stickman V" (4 inch by 4 inch art show)
Late October = Telling the Truth II
November = Advent event

James, expand on the " 4 inch by 4 inch art show "...sounds interesting.
basically, the stickman art show was originally created to encourage "anyone who can draw a stick man" to get involved with the arts and display their work with a whole bunch of other people. "talent" level was of no concern and a vibrant, excited show of discovery was what the whole thing was about...
take that four years down the road and many of the people involved in the first show have now developed into genuinely talented artists - which resulted in a show full of great, yet somehow intimidating, artwork.
so we've been thinking we need some sort of "leveling" agent to encourage wider participation in the next show. the idea we're currently tossing around is to "confine" everyone to a 4 x 4 canvas (or a 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 space for sculpture).
think about it, that means you can take a photograph, cut two inches off it - and voila! instant art.
i'll be posting more on the place website in the next few weeks as we work more details out, and i'll link it here...gotta run to a meeting right now...thanks for asking!
I think 4 x 4 is too small
you wouldn't get enough art of that size to fill 208....
maybe make it "no bigger than 10x10" or something like that.
Part of what I like seeing at art displays is the different sizes and shapes, the variety in dimension is just as important to me as the variety of subjects and mediums.
What if it was restricted to a "only sculpture" art show... that might "level the playing field" a bit?......
hey launa, thanks for the thoughts. as far as 4x4 idea goes: as it's been kicking around it has morphed (and is by no means concrete yet) into the idea of offering a "4x4" wall - rather than the whole show...
