Con Brio Studio updates

FOR THOSE OF US WHO APPRECIATE GREAT ART IN A SUITABLY GREAT SPACE:

Last Sunday marked the launch of Con Brio Studio' s new gallery space series. The brain child of one of our own Telling the Truth Conference participants, Jaqueline Van Voorst, this beautifully lit and inviting space will feature a different artist each month. For February, they are showcasing a collection of modernist landscapes by local artist Dennis Shields.

I was at the opening reception yesterday and really enjoyed spending an hour or so just soaking in the work and talking to the interesting collection of people gathered there. Dennis is a wonderful companion to his paintings. While he is happy to walk around and share insights on the evolution of his pieces, he also appears to quite enjoy sitting back and hearing what others are drawing from the work. Dennis uses layered colours, with an emphasis on textures of light. One of my favourite pieces is a painting titled "elements" where all the colours are layered on top of a canvas that is first painted black: a darkness to light theme emerging...

All this is to say it was great. Dennis is brilliant. You should all go check it out! While you're at it, mark your calendars to see Caleb Speller's work in March and April, Rachel Kiers (another "Telling the Truther") in May and Jason Nobel (our Telling the Truth Gallery Curator) for the month of June.

The gallery is open to the public Sunday afternoons from 1-5pm (except I believe Feb 18th - open Sat Feb 17th instead). Con Brio Studios is located at 1270 May Street (Moss & May area). www.conbriomusicstudios.ca
