Thanks to everyone who made it out to last Sunday afternoon's meeting. It was great to sit around the couches and talk about what we dug most about the Dust & Light show. For those of you who missed it (and know that we missed you) here's a brief idea of some of the things we discussed. If you were there, please fill in my bare-bones account via the comments - I'm sure I'm leaving some things out.
"A" for effort
Everyone was very impressed with how the show was pulled together. That so many people pitched in and gave a lot of time and energy made the task of pulling off such an intricate event easier than it could have been. So thanks all around!
A few things for "next time"
- Artists must drop-off and pick-up their own artwork. The idea of car-pooling our work was nice on the environment but killer on time and (Ron's van).
- Paper press was awesome - but we should try and get some visual media attention (Local TV channels etc)
- "Venue = Possibility." Secure the venue before too much planning is done.
- Liase with schools to offer "Field Trips" for the young'ins. Same for our senior citizens.
Telling the Truth II in the fall & an advent themed event the last week of November
The hope is to organize another conference for this fall. A few names were thrown around for a keynote speaker and we'd like to up the ante a bit this year in terms of tightening the organization. Everyone was happy with last year's format and thinks this year will be easier to pull off as a) there's more of us involved and b) we know what we're building from.
We also got excited about the idea of having an advent event planned BEFORE the conference so we could invite those attending to participate in a tangible manifestation of everything the conference hopes to introduce them to/teach them in.

Hopefully that should be good enough to start things rolling...please do fill in the comments to this post

Hey james - thanks for getting things rolling on this. Off the top of my head I would add:
FOR NEXT TIME:
- to pull off the school, seniors groups thing etc we would look at perhaps a 2 day event (one afternoon and 1 evening...something like that)
- we would quite definitely be up for some form of sponsorship, or support from local churches - but do not neccessarily want to be tied to or under the administration of any particular church
- re: VENUE - if we have any hope of booking a church for the thurs, Fri, maybe sat of Palm Sunday w/e we should all check our churches NOW!
FOR THE TELLING THE TRUTH II:
- We need to book potential homes ASAP. A friendly church would work great (I think Sidney Pentecostal came up as a strong possibility. Can Sidney people check out early Nov?)
working group (like we had for dust and light) to help plan / run would be so great. I'm shooting off the top of my head here, but wouldn't a planning retreat in late summer or early fall be great!!!!
Thanks again James...let's hear what else the others remembered...
